iPhone Duo game: how Towndom plays on the foldable screen
Updated October 27, 2026
The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable iPhone, and it changes how a game sits in your hands: a small screen when closed, a big one when open, and a half-open posture like a book. Towndom, the stock market game of French towns, is optimized for it from version 1.0.2. Here is what you see closed, open and half-open. The app is in French for now, so the screen names below are translated.
Towndom is a game: the currency is 100% fictional and nothing can be won or withdrawn for real. This guide is not investment advice.
What does the iPhone Duo change for a town game?
The iPhone Duo is Apple’s foldable iPhone. Closed, you hold it like a compact iPhone, with its outer screen. Open, it unfolds a large inner screen, wider than it is tall. You can use it closed, half-open like a book, or fully open, and once open you can also turn it.
In a game where every town has a price, a chart, events and a race for the mayorship, space really matters. On a wide screen it would be a pity to simply stretch a regular iPhone screen. So Towndom splits what it shows on either side of the fold, like the two pages of a book.
Towndom is free and uses play money only: you start with €2,000 in game currency, nothing can be won or lost in real life, and none of it is financial advice. You buy shares in towns whose price moves with local life, build towers on a board of 96 départements and become mayor.
How does Towndom play on the iPhone Duo when closed?
Closed, the whole game fits on the outer screen. Nothing is removed: the towns, the board, your collection and the shop are all there, as on a regular iPhone.
One detail specific to the device: iOS puts the tab bar in the side strip next to the camera.
What does the town page look like on the open screen?
This is the most visible change. Opened, the town page splits into two pages, one on each side of the fold:
- Left page: the price, the live chart and the buy and sell bar.
- Right page: your piece, the “move up a floor” card, the race for the mayorship, the town’s events and its data.
Why does the buy bar never cross the fold?
The buy and sell bar stays on the left page, with the chart, and never crosses the fold. That is on purpose: the fold is a spot you do not want to tap, so no important button sits on it.
The result is easy to read. On the left you watch the price move and decide whether to buy or sell. On the right you see what it changes: your floor, the mayorship, what is happening in the town.
In the Towns tab, the open screen also shows the selected town’s live chart in large; the town list opens from a button whenever you want another one.
What about départements, events and the welcome screens in two pages?
The same logic applies to the other screens. Opened, the iPhone Duo splits them into two pages that each have a clear job:
- A département: the board is on the left page, the filterable list of its towns on the right.
- An event: the story (what happened, the match, the facts) on the left, the numbers and sources on the right.
- The welcome screens: the illustration on the left, the text on the right.
What happens when the iPhone Duo is half-open?
This is the book posture: the device is partly open, like a small book resting on a table or held in both hands. In that position, Towndom’s sheets, such as buying a share, the shop or your profile, settle on one half of the screen.
Nothing you tap sits on the crease. So you can buy a share, open the shop or edit your profile without aiming at the junction between the two halves.
And if I turn the open iPhone Duo?
Opened and turned upright, the device becomes a tall column. The app then switches to a single column, with the tab bar at the bottom, as on a regular iPhone. You do not get two pages when the screen is taller than it is wide: the game adapts to the shape, not the other way around.
Do you need an iPhone Duo to play Towndom?
No. Towndom is free and also plays on other iPhones and on iPad, with the same play money and the same rules. The iPhone Duo does not add rules, it adds room: the same game, better laid out on a big screen.
If you want to understand the game first, start with the “How to play” guide. The board and the collection of départements are covered in their own guides.
